Our Universal and Street Rod lines have been carefully designed and curated for the custom car builder or for anyone doing a custom project that needs to be sealed up tight. These parts are the same quality as our direct fit parts but allow for the flexibility of adapting to any custom job you can think of.
A lot of times when people hear the term universal, they think poor quality or it’s the cheater’s way out because it’s not designed specifically for your vehicle. That is definitely not the case with any universal parts from Steele!
Some of these parts are components from our direct fit line, but have a “generic” shape that allows them to be used in multiple applications. There are other parts that were designed specifically with the builder and customizer in mind.

Beltline (Window Felt) Weatherstripping
We offer many different styles of beltline weatherstrips to give you the look you’re wanting for your build. Styles range from the old school “fuzzies” with stainless bead, to the more modern, flocked-rubber wiper seals. Choose your style, cut them to size and shape them to fit your door frame. They come complete with technical support in the form of YouTube Videos to teach you how to shape and attach them to your vehicle.
Sponge Extrusions
Our sponge rubber weatherstrip is ideal for sealing trunks, doors and anything where the seal will be compressed. It’s made from the high-quality EPDM rubber you’ve come to expect from Steele. It will hold its shape despite being smashed down and we offer more than 100 different profiles to choose from.
Dense Extrusions
This weatherstripping is made of firm/dense rubber and is ideal for sealing things like windshields, rear windshields and other stationary windows. Our dense rubber is supple enough to go around radiuses and durable enough to stand up to the elements. We offer more than 200 different profiles of dense weatherstripping for all types of applications.
Peel-N-Stick Extrusions
Steele Universal offers many of our weatherstripping profiles with Peel-N-Stick option for effortless application. Everything labelled “Peel-N-Stick” has the best quality 3M adhesive tape applied to it. The 3M adhesive tape is heat applied meaning that its fully bonded with the rubber so it won’t separate and is made to withstand the elements so it will last. (It’s NOT just double-sided tape!) Easiest application to use. Just prep the surface and stick it on!
Run Channel Weatherstripping
From the felt-lined, metal run channel, to the modern-day mohair-lined rubber run channel, we’ve got you covered. We offer more than 20 options in different profiles and lengths so no matter what you’re working on, you can get those roll up windows sealed.
Edge Trim Seals
Working on a project with exposed sheet metal or fiberglass flanges? You might need something to cover up, protect or give a finished look to those unfinished edges. Made of dense rubber with a flexible, spring-steel core, we have several options for edge trim seals to fit and grip different edge thicknesses.
Push-On Weatherstripping
These weatherstrips are one-part edge trim seal and one-part sponge bulb to ensure a solid, reliable seal (door, trunks, toolbox, boat hatch). Their flexible wire and segmented steel cores make these weatherstrips grip the strongest in the industry. These seals are the most common on vehicles late-70’s to present.
Rubber Sheeting
These high-quality EPDM sponge rubber sheets come in several different sizes for whatever project you need them for. Their uses are only limited by your creativity. Custom headlight, taillight, and mounting gaskets are easily made with this quality padding.
Grommets, Plugs, & Stem Bumpers
Whether you’re looking for a round rubber grommet, stem bumper, or round body plug, we’ve got you covered. Even with a wide variety to choose from, these parts are sectioned by category, making it easy to find what you need.
Fabric Construction
This category includes things like fabric hood lacing, mohair channel liner and bow drill cloth tape for the finishing touches that will make your custom build stand out. The mohair channel liner is an excellent choice to line a custom run channel.
