Just like with any other good thing, you have to do the hard work up front to get good results. What I’m talking about here specifically is surface preparation.
The adhesive on our Peel-N-Stick products is specifically designed for attaching weatherstripping or gaskets/seals to metals, coated metals, certain paints and plastics, and most smooth, non-oily surfaces. It’s actually constructed with two different industrial strength adhesives to withstand any conditions you throw at it. But, in order to get the most bang for your adhesive buck, your surface prep has got to be an A+ job every time.
Don’t know where to start? It’s as easy as 1-2-3.
- Remove any debris from the area. Old, stuck on weatherstrip bits, old hunks of adhesive, other sticky residue- take a plastic scraper, a rag and some adhesive remover and get it off as best you can.
2. Wipe everything down with a clean, dry rag or blow it off with compressed air. This will remove any remaining dirt, dust, and tiny pieces of debris.
3. Break out the alcohol. Rubbing alcohol that is (it’s not time to celebrate yet). A good wipe with that rubbing alcohol will remove any oils, solvents or other substances that will prevent the adhesive from reaching the metal surface or paint where it can grab and hold on tight. Wait a few seconds for the alcohol to evaporate and you’re all set to go.
These might sound like simple things but they’re easy to overlook. Take your time, follow instructions, and enjoy the end result of your Peel-N-Stick project.
