Steele Rubber Products – 5/16″ Bulb Seal | RV Seals | Steele Rubber Products
Finding a replacement perimeter seal or roof gasket has been a challenge for some of our customers, so we set out to design the seal with modern materials and an improved design. Our gasket is made from EPDM rubber, giving it excellent resistance to UV and harsh weather conditions. It will not shrink, fade or crack! If the rubber seal on your popup camper has deteriorated or lost it’s shape, then it’s time to replace it. Here’s how easy it is to do:
Step 1: Raise the Roof
Raise your roof up about 6–12 inches so you have space to work. To remove the old rubber seal, simply pull it right out of the track. If it was glued in place, you might have to use a tuck tool to pry it out. Most old adhesive should give easily, but if there’s a spot giving you trouble, use your tuck tool to scrape against the seal to pry it loose.
Step 2: Remove Old Adhesive
If there is any adhesive left over after removing the seal, then you can use a clean rag with adhesive remover to wipe down the area. You will want to get the whole perimeter clean before installing your new seal.
Step 3: Determine Your Footage
Measure the perimeter of your pop up to determine the footage you’ll need to purchase. Steele Rubber Products parts are conveniently available by the foot, so you only order what you need.
Step 4: Install Your New Seal
When installing your new seal, you have 2 choices. You can either install it as is, or install it with weatherstripping adhesive for extra hold. If you’re installing without an adhesive, simply press the seal into place – working your way around the perimeter of your pop-up. If you’re installing with an adhesive simply apply your adhesive first, then press your seal into place.
For seamless installation, start from the center back of the trailer and press the new seal onto the edge. Continue all around the trailer until you meet back at your starting point. Then cut the remaining seal to fit flush against the starting edge of your seal.
Step 5: Allow the Adhesive to dry
If you used an adhesive to install your seal, you will want to let it cure for 24 hours. During the curing period you can lower your roof allowing the tension to adhere the seal in place.
