If you’ve ever restored a car or truck, especially one that’s considered uncommon, you know it can be hard to find replacement parts- even harder if you’re trying to keep things original.
Here at Steele, we feel your pain and one of the ways we try to ease it is through our revulcanization services. On select vehicles we will take your old, used up, rubber-molded-over-metal parts and return them to you, with the original core intact, looking brand new!
The majority of the revulcs that we offer are engine and transmission mounts but we also do harmonic balancers, vibration dampeners, acceleration pedals, torque ball mounts, cab mounts and more.
Here’s how we do it:
Step 1: Old Cores
First, you send us your old cores. To do this, you can go to our website at www.steelerubber.com and search by year/make/model/style to see if we offer this service for your vehicle. If we do, give us a call at 877-455-1161 and make arrangements with a product specialist to send them in.
When we receive them, they’re gonna be dirty and nasty, with chunks of rubber missing on them or maybe even no rubber on them at all. The uglier, the better.

The top left is a prop shaft support for a 1958-60 Pontiac
The top right is a transmission mount for a 1961-62 Buick
The bottom left is an accelerator pedal for a 1939 Pontiac
Bottom right (2 pcs) are rear motor mounts for a 1941-47 Buick
Step 2: Out with the Old
Next we strip off the old rubber and clean everything up, leaving only the metal core. We also inspect the metal and if any damage is detected, we repair it (if possible).

The bottom left part has been painted (see Step 3).
Step 3: Paint it Black
Everything gets painted. This special black paint allows the rubber to adhere to the metal and is crucial for the proper performance of the part.
Step 4: Mold on new Rubber
After the metal is cleaned up and in and perfect working order, it’s off to have new rubber molded around it. We have a mold specific to each part we offer a revulcanization service for and like everything else we do, it’s designed from a factory original to ensure accuracy.
Once the molding process is complete, we may do some touch up painting with Rustoleum to protect any bare metal and make everything look nice too. The end result – the part comes out looking brand new, just like the original!

We box it up and ship it out to a happy customer and start on the next batch.
We offer revulcanization services for many GM, MOPAR and Independent made cars and trucks from the 1930’s to the 1970’s. Search our website by year/make/model/style to see if we offer one for your ride!
